Pay Rate: $37.58 - $44.22 per hour (5 steps, 2024 rates), plus 13.5%
in lieu of benefits
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week; Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm

Job Overview
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a temporary full-time Tree Permit Inspector (from approx. May 12, 2025 – May 15, 2026) to join our team of professionals in the Permits, Licences and Inspections Division, Licences and Policies Department. Reporting to the Manager, Licences and Policies, in this unionized position you will be expected to conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with the tree protection bylaw; process tree removal permits, review tree cutting permit applications and Arborist reports and enforce the provisions of the Township of Langley Tree Protection Bylaw.
Responsibilities
• Review proposed site plans and specifications for topography, tree protection zones and location of structures with respect to number, location and species of trees on a property
• Review all tree cutting permit applications and process tree removal permits in compliance with required Township of Langley bylaws and regulations
• Conduct inspections to assess tree health, removal and potential violations, and monitor and enforce tree protection regulations
• Liaise and provide advice and guidance to a variety of internal and external contacts
• Prepare and submit supporting documentation related to the tree protection bylaw for legal files, reports to Council and evidence in court as required
• Perform related work as required
Qualifications
• Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by related technical courses, plus sound experience in a Local Government regulatory role preferably related to tree-related regulations; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Certification as an Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture would be an asset.
• Considerable knowledge of the Township of Langley Tree Protection Bylaw
• Considerable knowledge in development and construction methods around trees, materials used, installation of trees and of ornamental tree care techniques and practices
• Review permit applications and read and interpret arborist reports and technical assessments
• Ability to perform a variety of inspectional and investigational duties related to the work
• Ability to prepare, establish and maintain a variety of records, files, correspondence and reports manually or using software programs
• Ability to walk continuously for extended periods of time in all weather conditions and negotiate stairs
• Work with minimal to no supervision and assume responsibility for independent decisions
Required Certifications/Licenses
Candidates must have the following valid and current certifications/licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application.
• BC Class 5 (full privilege) Driver’s License.
