Job Overview
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to two auxiliary Water Conservation Bylaw Officers to join our team of professionals in the Public Works Division, Solid Waste Department. Successful candidates must be available for up to 35 hours per week from approximately May 10, 2026 to August 28, 2026. Reporting to the Manager, Solid Waste, in this unionized position you will support public awareness efforts and carry out education and enforcement activities to encourage compliance with the Township of Langley’s Drinking Water Conservation Bylaw. The Water Conservation Bylaw Officer plays a vital role in promoting water conservation and raising awareness about responsible water use during warmer months. This position will appeal to individuals who are detail-oriented, have excellent interpersonal skills, are passionate about the environment and public outreach and would like to join an enthusiastic team.

Responsibilities
• Patrol assigned areas to monitor and enforce compliance with the Township of Langley’s Drinking Water Conservation Bylaw
• Investigate public complaints related to water sprinkling and associated bylaw violations
• Deliver water use pamphlets and related information, provide factual and educational information and explanations to the public about water use and make presentations to the public at schools and events promoting water conservation
• Issue warning notices to residents or businesses that violate the Township of Langley’s Drinking Water Conservation Bylaw
• Recommend issuance of a violation fine as necessary and issue tickets as required
• Prepare and maintain forms and detailed records related to the work
• Perform related work as required

Qualifications
• Completion of Grade 12, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Sound knowledge of regulations and bylaws related to water conservation, and of the geographic areas
• Ability to deal tactfully and firmly with the public and exercise sound judgement and discretion
• Ability to explain regulations within prescribed limits and provide factual and educational information
• Ability to perform simple clerical duties and maintain records related to the work.
• Sufficient strength/stamina to perform moderate manual work in all types of weather

Required Certifications/Licenses
Candidates must have the following valid and current certifications/licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application.
• BC Class 5 (full privilege) Driver’s License. You must include with your application a current Personal Driving Record (select the 5-year option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date.
