Reporting to the Manager, Utilities Operations, in this unionized position you will assist in waterworks operations, maintenance and repair tasks while exercising independent judgement, initiative and safe work practices. Responsibilities • Assist the operators in waterworks operations, maintenance and repairs • Install watermains and fittings to grade • Build valve chambers, manholes and catch basins • Tap watermains for service connections and installation • Install shoring, check service gauges, repair valves, and perform routine maintenance on hydrants • Maintain pump stations and mobile generators • Conduct unidirectional watermain flushing operations including testing water for chlorine content and adding dechlorination tablets as appropriate • Guide equipment operators and assist in the safe operation of equipment • Perform related work as required Qualifications • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by training courses and sound experience in water or sewer construction and maintenance tasks or an equivalent combination of training and experience • Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices and tools/equipment used in waterworks construction, repairs and maintenance • Considerable knowledge of the hazards, safety precautions, and standards applicable to utilities operations • Ability to stay current with advances in waterworks maintenance, repair and construction techniques • Skill in the use and care of a variety of tools and equipment • BC Driver’s License Class 5 (full privilege) with Heavy Trailer Endorsement (Code 20) or a BC Driver’s License Class 3 with Airbrake Endorsement are considered assets • Cross Connection Control Tester certification considered an asset Required Certifications/Licenses Candidates must have the following valid and current certifications/licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application. • BC Class 5 (full privilege) Driver’s License.
