Job Overview
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Utilities Maintenance Worker to join our team of professionals in the Public Works Division, Utilities Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Utilities Operations, in this unionized position you will assist in waterworks operations, maintenance and repair tasks while exercising independent judgement, initiative and safe work practices.
Responsibilities
• Assist the operators in waterworks operations, maintenance and repairs
• Install watermains and fittings to grade
• Build valve chambers, manholes and catch basins
• Tap watermains for service connections and installation
• Install shoring, check service gauges, repair valves, and perform routine maintenance on hydrants
• Maintain pump stations and mobile generators
• Conduct unidirectional watermain flushing operations including testing water for chlorine content and adding dechlorination tablets as appropriate
• Guide equipment operators and assist in the safe operation of equipment
• Perform related work as required
Qualifications
• Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by training courses and sound experience in water or sewer construction and maintenance tasks or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices and tools/equipment used in waterworks construction, repairs and maintenance
• Considerable knowledge of the hazards, safety precautions, and standards applicable to utilities operations
• Ability to stay current with advances in waterworks maintenance, repair and construction techniques
• Skill in the use and care of a variety of tools and equipment
• BC Driver’s License Class 5 (full privilege) with Heavy Trailer Endorsement (Code 20) or a BC Driver’s License Class 3 with Airbrake Endorsement are considered assets
• Cross Connection Control Tester certification considered an asset
Required Certifications/Licenses
