| Job Description: |
The City of Abbotsford's Utilities Division is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Laboratory Technician to join our team. You will be responsible for performing complex technical laboratory work involving the chemical, physical, and bacteriological analysis of water, wastewater, industrial waste, sludge, and solid waste samples in support of the City's pollution control and environmental compliance programs. |

| Duties: |
In this role, you will conduct routine and non-routine laboratory testing, prepare and verify standards and reagents, interpret analytical results, and ensure laboratory quality control protocols are consistently maintained. You will be responsible for producing and communicating laboratory test results to supervisors and plant personnel, verifying unusual results, and conducting reanalysis in accordance with established quality assurance procedures.
As a key member of the laboratory team, you will prepare calculations, reports, statistical data, and other technical documentation related to laboratory operations. You will participate in proficiency testing-support the laboratory's Globally Harmonized System (GHS) requirements, and contribute to the maintenance, calibration, and operation of laboratory equipment. |

| Educational Requirements: |
As the ideal candidate, you possess the following:
•Diploma of Technology in Chemistry, Environmental, or a related discipline from a recognized Institute of Technology.
•A minimum of three years of related experience in chemistry, bacteriology, or environmental laboratory.
•Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.

| Skill Requirements: |
The successful candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, exceptional attention to detail, adhere to Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures based on the internationally recognized Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater, and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively. You are able to recognize unusual laboratory results, investigate discrepancies, maintain testing accuracy, and communicate findings clearly to operational staff and management. |

| Salary: |
$37.32 to $43.88 per hour. |
